The proponents of the Energy Transition Zone i.e. ONE, Aberdeen City Council (ACC) and Invest Aberdeen, have presented it as an essential development that will transform Aberdeen’s and Scotland’s economy and at the same time be extremely important in achieving increasingly urgent needs to meet net zero targets.
The information available so far infers that they, together with Aberdeen Harbour Board, (AHB) has done so almost entirely to promote and safeguard the oil, gas and harbour interests. On dubious economic grounds, that (for very short term benefits that will not improve the livelihoods or living conditions of the local population) do not justify the resulting environmental damage and the further sacrifice of the people living near the future Aberdeen South Harbour. The area which may now become part of the core of an Energy Transition Zone, further damaging the local area. By marginalising the planning department, minimising public consultation, using unsound economic grounds and extensive positive publicity to do so, there has been a limit to due process and proper conversation surrounding this project.
